Adolf Kegebein (born June 6, 1894 in Güstrow ; † 1987 ibid) was a German architect .

Life

The son of an innkeeper first attended a private school and then the secondary school in Güstrow. From 1913 to 1920, interrupted by military service in the First World War , he studied architecture at the Technical University of Dresden . Hans Poelzig and Heinrich Tessenow in particular were his teachers here.

In 1924 he settled in Güstrow as an architect. Around 50 residential, administrative and industrial buildings were built here according to his plans. His buildings include the development of Wallensteinstrasse, Gustav-Adolf-Strasse, Lange Stege, Kuhlenweg, Schondorferstrasse and Fritz-Reuter-Strasse, the Sparkasse am Markt and the Landesbauernschaft am Wall. His best-known project today was the construction of the house and studio for Ernst Barlach am Heidberg. From 1945 to 1955 he was an employee of the Ministry of Construction. He was involved in the reconstruction of Heiligendamm and in the construction of the post-war buildings of the University of Rostock . The cemetery chapel in Teterow and the Catholic Church in Lübenheen were also built during this time.

Kegebein lived in the house built according to his own plans at Domplatz 2 in Güstrow since 1936. Many of his works are documented in photos taken by his cousin, the photographer Berthold Kegebein .
