Adolf Poeffel

Adolf Pöffel (born December 11, 1914 in Bremen , † September 22, 1961 in Berlin ) was a German resistance fighter against National Socialism and a KPD and SED functionary.

Life

Pöffel, the son of a worker and a seamstress, was involved in communist organizations from an early age. In 1926 he became a member of the woodworkers' association, in 1927 of the Jungspartakusbund and in 1929 of the Red Aid of Germany and the Revolutionary Trade Union Opposition . During his apprenticeship as a building carpenter in Bremen, he became a member of the Communist Youth Association of Germany (KJVD) and took on leading positions from 1931. In 1932 Pöffel was arrested for the first time, but was acquitted of the charge of high treason for lack of evidence. From 1933 Pöffel continued his political activity in illegality and worked for the "Antimilitaristischer Apparat Department Military Policy" (AM-Apparat), the cover name for the KPD's intelligence service, which existed until 1937 . In 1934 Adam went to Moscow for a three-month course under the code name Ernst Apfel .

In 1936 and 1937 Pöffel fought in the Spanish Civil War as a member of the international brigades and was wounded. From 1937 he was a member of the FDJ leadership in Paris , from 1938 also in the KPD leadership. From 1939 to 1940 Pöffel was interned in France . Pöffel was able to escape from custody and stayed illegally in France for some time. From 1943 he was an instructor of the Organization for Immigrant Workers (MOI) founded by the French Communist Party in France, from 1944 Pöffel was an employee of the Committee Free Germany for the West (CALPO) and in 1945 a member of the cadre commission of the KPD in France.

In May 1946, Pöffel returned to Germany and began studying at the Karl Marx party college in Liebenwalde . In 1946 and 1948/49 Pöffel, now a member of the SED, was a consultant in the personnel policy department in the Central Committee (ZK) of the SED . In 1946/47 he was an instructor at the party college and in 1947/48 he was an employee of the management department of the Central Transport Administration of the German Economic Commission . From 1949 to 1951 Pöffel was a consultant in the Western Commission department of the Central Committee of the SED, where he was responsible for personnel policy.

From 1951 Pöffel was an advisor for western cadres in the cadre department of the Central Committee of the SED. In 1954 he took up correspondence courses at the party college. From 1956 to 1960 Pöffel was, together with Walter Hähnel , head of the SED labor office. In 1960 Pöffel was released from all functions for health reasons and died a year later in Berlin.
