biography

Seifert was born in Weletitz in 1826 as the son of the farmer Johann Seifert and his wife Katharina Dietz. After graduating from Saaz high school in 1844, Seifert attended the University of Prague to study medicine. During his studies in the revolutionary year 1848 he took an active part in the liberal aspirations of the student body and became a founding member of the literary-rhetorical association of German students in Prague. In 1852 he returned to Saaz as a doctor of medicine, opened a practice there and married Anna, geb. Štiansny († 1889 Saaz).

In addition to medical practice and politics, he devoted himself to agriculture. His services to the hop cultivation in the city of Saaz and the surrounding area should be emphasized . From 1859 he was the editor of the trade journal "Die Hopfenhalle", the first German brewery newspaper, through which he became known nationwide. In 1860 he was instrumental in founding the city's hop market. He was one of the founders of the Saaz Hop Association and its chairman from 1878 to 1889.

In the 1870s he was an influential member of the Liberal Party in Saaz local politics.

As an archivist , he ran the Saaz City Archives on a voluntary basis from 1903 to 1905, and organized and inventoried its holdings.
