Adolf Werner (Abbot)

Adolf Werner SOCist (born May 14, 1867 in Tiszafüred , † February 5, 1939 in Zirc ) was a Hungarian Cistercian and abbot of the Zirc monastery .

Life

Werner, who joined the Cistercian Abbey in Zirc in 1883, made his solemn religious vows in 1890 and was ordained a priest in the same year. After graduating as Dr. phil he was a high school teacher at the Cistercian high schools in Stuhlweissenburg and Eger , from 1904 to prior and rector in Baja . In 1924 he was elected abbot and headed the monastery until his death in 1939. The improved economic situation of the abbey made it possible for Abbot Werner to expand the high schools into modern educational establishments.

He published numerous literary-historical, aesthetic and educational treatises.
