Adolf Woliński

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adolf Woliński (* 1821 ; † March 13, 1895 ) was a Polish architect and a representative of historicism (Wilhelminian style). He mainly worked in Warsaw and created a large number of buildings here, especially elegant tenement houses in the neo-Gothic and neo-Renaissance styles on the avenues Aleje Jerozolimskie and Ulica Marszałkowska . At Plac Trzech Krzyży (to be precise: Ulica Żurawia 2 ) he built a spacious apartment building for the sugar baron Fuchs. The mighty Zamoyski Palace on Ulica Nowy Świat and - also based on a project by Henryk Marconi - the Wielkopolski Palace in Chroberz were built under Woliński . He built the pavilion of the Red Cross Hospital (Polish: Szpitala Polskiego Czerwonego Krzyża) at 6 Smolna Street and led the renovation of the Hotel de Saxe . In 1885 he designed a project for the Warsaw National Museum , but it was never realized. In 1856 he received the diploma of a master builder III. He taught drawing at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts from 1859 to 1861 . Woliński lived temporarily in the Nowy Świat 7 apartment building and was probably buried in the Powązki cemetery in Warsaw.
