Live and act

Adolf von der Nahmer was the son of Alexander von der Nahmer (1832–1888) and began an apprenticeship as a businessman after graduating from high school. In 1886 he joined the Alexanderwerk as a so-called traveler , which was headed by his brother Wilhelm von der Nahmer (1858–1938). In 1891 he took over the London branch with representations in Paris and Brussels. The following year he became a partner in Alexanderwerk. When the company was converted into a GmbH in 1896, Adolf and Wilhelm von der Nahmer and Karl B. Luckhaus became managing directors with equal rights. In the same year he married Elenita (Helene) Böker (1873-1965).

In 1909 Wilhelm left the company, which was converted into a public limited company in 1899 , and Adolf became general director. Under his leadership, Alexanderwerk became a leading manufacturer of household and kitchen appliances, commercial kitchen equipment and meat processing machines. In 1925 the company had over 2,800 employees and produced 1.4 million household and 40,000 commercial kitchen and butcher machines a year. Von der Nahmer resigned from the management of the company and his honorary posts in 1929.

In 1923, von der Nahmer became President of the Remscheid Chamber of Industry and Commerce (now the Wuppertal-Solingen-Remscheid Chamber of Commerce and Industry ) as the successor to Moritz Böker . He held this office until 1929, followed by Christian Heinrich Wolf in 1945 .
