Adolfo Ballivián Coll (born November 15, 1831 in La Paz , † February 14, 1874 in Nucchu, Chuquisaca Department ) was a Bolivian military, author , politician and president of his country.

Life

Adolfo Ballivián, son of former President José Ballivián , joined the military at the age of 16 and fought rebel groups under the command of his father. His father was overthrown and went into exile . From 1847 Adolfo Ballivián also had to leave Bolivia and went to Chile and Brazil . After the unexpected death of his father, he returned to Bolivia in 1855 and initially rejoined the army. He managed to reunite the quarreling forces and he decided to go into politics. He soon made a name for himself as a congressman as he advocated an orderly state and the rule of law.

Adolfo Ballivián became President of Bolivia on May 9, 1873 and held the office until January 31, 1874. The youngest president to date died of stomach cancer on February 14, 1874 at the age of only 42 . His successor was Tomás Frías Ametller , who was also his predecessor in office.
