Geographical location

The memorial to the Catholic priest and founder of the Kolping Society, Adolph Kolping (1813–1865), stands in a memorial in front of the youth home in Giesel at Laurentiusstraße 36 in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .

It shows the socially committed priest and social reformer who was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Rome on October 27, 1991 . The Roman Catholic Church celebrates Adolph Kolping's day of remembrance on December 4th.

The memorial plaque of the monument shows the blessed Adolph Kolping on a relief portrait on a basalt stone boulder from the Schrimpf quarry in Mittelkalbach with the following inscription: "Blessed Adolph Kolping 1813 - 1865 - journeyman father, priest and social reformer - 1929 Kolping family Giesel 1994".

Reason of establishment

The memorial was erected on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the local Kolping Family in Giesel three years after the beatification in 1994 under the then chairman Theo Schnell.

The events of the parish of St. Laurentius Giesel , the Kfd and the Kolping family take place regularly in the adjacent Giesel youth home .
