Mittelkalbach is the largest district of the municipality of Kalbach in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda and the seat of the municipal administration. The hamlets of Bucheller and Grashof belong to Mittelkalbach .

Mittelkalbach is located in the south of the Fulda district, in the "Hessische Rhön" nature reserve .

history

In the Middle Ages, both the Neuenberg monastery owned in Mittelkalbach, as did the lords of Lauter from Schlüchtern . In the 17th century ownership passed to the Fulda bishopric , which set up a dairy in Mittelkalbach .

Emigrants from Mittelkalbach were among the first to settle in Fulda, Ohio.

Territorial reform

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , by virtue of state law on August 1, 1972, Mittelkalbach was incorporated into the new large municipality of Kalbach. Mittelkalbach became the seat of the municipal administration.

There is a Catholic Church of St. Sebastian in the village . In 1898 Pastor Dr. Rügel for the church two bronze bells at the renowned Otto bell foundry from Hemelingen / Bremen. It was melted down during World War I. In 1920 and 1926 Otto cast two new bronze bells. They were confiscated and melted down during World War II . The third generation of Otto bells was cast and delivered in 1950. The bell weighs 2,340 kg and has the following sequence: f - a flat - b - c. The bells have the following diameters: 1170 mm, 984 mm, 876 mm and 780 mm.

Today the Catholic parish of St. Sebastian is organizationally part of the Kalbach-Neuhof pastoral network .

In the 2016 local elections, the CDU won 4 seats in the local advisory board , the SPD 3 seats and the citizens of Kalbach (BfK) 2 seats. The mayor is Werner Stey (SPD).

  • The place became famous when on April 26, 2008 an ICE drove into a flock of sheep in the nearby Landrückentunnel and the 170 passengers were brought to the community center in Kalbach.
