The village of Niederkalbach ( Rhöner Platt Nierekalwich ) is the second largest district of the municipality of Kalbach in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda .

Geographical location

Niederkalbach is located in the south of the Fulda district, about 14 km southwest of Fulda and 2 km southeast of Neuhof in the Hessian Rhön Nature Park . It is located a little higher in the valley of the eponymous Kalbach , a right tributary of the Fliede . The district extends over a total area of 1411.36 hectares.

The place borders in the northwest on Neuhof , in the northeast on Hattenhof (municipality Neuhof) and in the east on Büchenberg (municipality Eichenzell), in the south on Mittelkalbach (municipality Kalbach) and in the west on the hamlet Erlenhof (municipality Neuhof).

history

Niederkalbach was first mentioned in a document in 826 under the name Calbaha . In 1391 the place appears as Kalba inferior in the documents, in 1442 as Nydderkalbe . The former fiefdom of the Lords of Spala was bought in 1682 by Prince Abbot Placidus von Droste . The direct previous owner was Baron von Plittersdorf, who received 24,000 guilders. As a result, the village came to the Neuhof district. The castle of the former feudal owners, which stood not far from today's church, fell into disrepair around 1700 and is no longer preserved today.

Reorganization

There were changes in the course of the regional reform in Hesse . The once independent community of Niederkalbach was joined to the community of Mittelkalbach on April 1, 1972 with Veitsteinbach . This went on August 1, 1972 with Oberkalbach and Uttrichshausen in the municipality of Kalbach.

religion

The inauguration of a castle chapel, which was dedicated to St. Lawrence , is documented in 1447 . This branch church belonged to the parish of Flieden until 1582 , when it was handed over to the newly founded parish of Neuhof. Due to the decay of the castle (and thus also the castle chapel), a new half-timbered chapel was built in 1765, but it was closed in 1901 because of the risk of collapse and was finally demolished. Today's Sankt-Laurentius-Kirche , which was built in 1909 in the neo-Gothic style and enlarged in 1977 with a long transept, has the layout of a Greek cross . From 1925 to 2015 the parish was an independent parish curate . Since January 1, 2016, Niederkalbach has belonged together to the Veitsteinbach and Uttrichshausen branches of the newly established parish of St. Kilian Kalbach. The parish church of St. Sebastian is located in Mittelkalbach. Organizationally, St. Kilian is part of the Heilig Geist Kalbach-Neuhof pastoral network .
