Veitsteinbach is the second smallest district in the municipality of Kalbach in the eastern Hessian district of Fulda . The hamlets of Kiliansberg and Sparhof belong to Veitsteinbach .

Veitsteinbach is located in the south of the Fulda district in the "Hessische Rhön" nature park .

history

The village was first mentioned in a document in 953. At that time it was still called Steinbach . In 1350 Otto I put the name of the church titular in front of the Steinbach because there were too many places with the same name. This is how Vitsteinbach came into being . For the year 1357 there is evidence of a Fulda customs post in Veitsteinbach .

Veitsteinbach was abandoned by the inhabitants in the 14th and 15th centuries. That is why the district was divided between Eichenried and Mittelkalbach . Veitsteinbach was then part of Eichenried until 1837.

Reorganization

As part of the regional reform in Hesse , the once independent municipality of Veitsteinbach was incorporated into the municipality of Mittelkalbach on April 1, 1972 together with Eichenried, which was incorporated on September 1, 1969 . She came to Kalbach on August 1, 1972 .

religion

As early as 1167 there was a Catholic chapel in the village , dedicated to St. Vitus was consecrated. It fell into disrepair in the following centuries and was renewed in 1763. In 1913 and 1952 it was expanded. Around 1970 the old church was demolished due to a dilapidated roof structure and the current church was built in a modern style, which is also dedicated to St. Vitus. The Roman Catholic Parish Curate St. Vitus Veitsteinbach was dissolved in 2016. Thus, the St. Vitus Church is today a branch church of the Catholic. Parish St. Kilian Kalbach, which organizationally belongs to the pastoral association Heilig Geist Kalbach-Neuhof.

In the local elections in 2016, the Free Voters for Veitsteinbach (FWfV) obtained the majority of the votes and thus have a majority in the local advisory board . The mayor is Christoph Heil (FWfV).
