history

The prince abbot of the Fulda monastery , Count Johann III. von Henneberg-Schleusingen († 1541) had the hamlet laid out in 1523 in the district of Veitsteinbach. Veitsteinbach and Eichenried were one municipality at that time. This led to a process between Philipp von Eberstein and the monastery in 1534 , since Philipp von Eberstein now also demanded a share of the tithe from Eichenried. Veitsteinbach was mentioned as early as 953, so it is much older than Eichenried. Since this place had been temporarily abandoned by its inhabitants in the 14th and 15th centuries, its district was divided between Eichenried and Mittelkalbach.

At a later date the community came under the rule of the Landgraviate of Hessen-Kassel . In 1786 Eichenried assigned this to the County of Hanau-Münzenberg , which had belonged to the Landgraviate since 1736, to the Brandenstein Office . In 1803 the Landgraviate was elevated to the status of the Electorate of Hesse . During the Napoleonic era, the Brandenstein office - and thus also Eichenried - was under French military administration from 1806, belonged to the Principality of Hanau from 1807–1810 , and then from 1810 to 1813 to the Grand Duchy of Frankfurt . Then it fell back to the Electorate of Hesse. After the administrative reform of the Electorate of Hesse in 1821, which divided the Electorate of Hesse into four provinces and 22 districts, Eichenried came to the Fulda district . Veitsteinbach was a district of Eichenried until 1837, then became independent again and took on Eichenried on September 1, 1969.

Reorganization

There were changes in the course of the regional reform. On April 1, 1972, the municipalities of Mittelkalbach, Niederkalbach and Veitsteinbach merged as part of the regional reform in Hesse , but were merged into the municipality of Kalbach on August 1, 1972.
