Adri van Velsen

Adri van Velsen (* 1946 ) is a Dutch tenor saxophonist and music teacher.

Van Velsen has been a member of the Nederlands Saxofoon Kwartet (with Ed Bogaard , Leo van Oostrom and Alex de Leeuw ) since it was founded , with whom he recorded several albums and was awarded the Johan Wagenaar Prize in 1980. He has also worked with the Schönberg Ensemble , the ASKO , the Nieuw Ensemble and all the major Dutch symphony orchestras and is tenor saxophonist with the Concertgebouw Orchestra . For the theater production Odysseus (with Frank Groothof ) he received an Edison Award . In a duo with the pianist Marianne Soeterbroek , he dedicates himself to the repertoire for tenor saxophone and piano. Composers such as Klaas de Vries and Henk Alkema composed works for him. Van Velsen has been teaching saxophone, jazz saxophone and chamber music since 1976, first at the Prins Claus Conservatorium Groningen and later at the Conservatorium Maastricht (pupil including Paul van Aubel ), whose big band he leads.
