Henk Alkema

Henk Alkema (born November 20, 1944 in Harlingen , Netherlands , † August 4, 2011 in Utrecht ) was a contemporary Dutch composer .

Live and act

Alkema completed his studies at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague with Léon Orthel and from 1976 conducting with Willem Frederik Bon and then with Zolt Deaky and Huub Kerstens .

During his studies he was active as a jazz pianist and improviser. Numerous radio recordings bear his name with self-composed ensembles and also with well-known orchestras. He was a co-founder of the Honelulu theater company . In 1978 he became a lecturer at the Muziek Pedagogical Academie in Leeuwarden and from 1983 lecturer at the Utrecht Conservatory . He later became light music coordinator and director from 1994 to 1996. He was a visiting artist at Berklee College of Music in Boston , United States and at the School of Fine Arts at the University of Montana .
