Adrian Bentzon

Christopher Adrian Ernst Weis Bentzon (born June 2, 1929 - January 1, 2013 ) was a Danish jazz pianist , band leader , music teacher and composer ; he was considered one of the outstanding Danish musicians of hot jazz .

Live and act

Bentzon studied at the University of Copenhagen , where he obtained a master's degree in Slavic philology in 1952. Together with Anders Dyrup he was the initiator of the private jazz club Montmatre in Copenhagen and was active in the local jazz scene from 1952 to 1963 at the revival of Dixieland jazz . He led the Adrian Bentzons jazz band , to which Theis Jensen also belonged from 1956 . With this band he also accompanied American musicians such as Albert Nicholas , Bill Coleman , Muggsy Spanier and Mezz Mezzrow as well as Sandy Brown and recorded several EPs for Storyville Records in the late 1950s . Between 1969 and 1973 he was a pianist in the Theis / Nyegaards jazz band . In 1969 he composed the music for Thomas Winding's film Hemmelig Sommer . From 2000 he was active with a quartet as Adrian Bentzon and the Jazzroots , but also performed with a quartet and as a soloist in Sardinia.

From 1955 Bentzon worked as a music teacher at the Bernadotteskolen in Copenhagen , from 1970 to 1974 he was rector of the Det fri grammar school . From 1976 until his retirement in 1996 he was the rector of the Frøbel Højskolen teachers' college in Roskilde . He is the father of the jazz musician, composer and actor Aske Bentzon (* 1955).
