Theis Jensen (born August 5, 1938 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish trumpeter (also cornet player , vocals ) and band leader of hot jazz ; he is considered one of the outstanding Danish musicians of traditional jazz. His main job is as a graphic designer .

Live and act

As a teenager, Jensen got to know the recordings of Louis Armstrong and His Hot Five , which got him excited about hot jazz. In 1952 he bought an old cornet and taught himself to play. From 1954 he belonged to the Louisiana Jazz Band in Copenhagen, which also appeared as a break band in the private jazz club Montmatre , then to Henrik Johansen's jazz band, with whom he made first recordings for the Storyville label in 1956 . In the same year he became a member of Adrian Bentzon's band , with whom further recordings were made. In 1958 he had a guest performance with Papa Bue's jazz band in the New Orleans Beer Bar on Hamburg's Reeperbahn . In 1963, Bentzon's band formed the Theis / Nyegaard Jazz Band , which he led with Peter Nyegaard until 1990. In 1998, after long-time clarinetist Erik “Krølle” Andersen left the band, he renamed the band (which still exists today) to Theis' Jazz Band .

Jensen accompanied American musicians such as Louis Jordan , Albert Nicholas , Roy Eldridge , Doc Cheatham , Vic Dickenson , Wild Bill Davison , Edmond Hall and Bill Coleman . He not only toured internationally with his own band and with Papa Bue , but also with Jørgen Svare.
