Adriana Budewska (also Adriana Budevska , Bulgarian Адриана Будевска ; born December 13, 1878 in Dobrich , † December 9, 1955 in Sofia ) was a Bulgarian actress and one of the founders of modern Bulgarian theater.

Life

Budewska was born in the Black Sea port city of Dobrich and finished high school in Varna . In 1895 she was selected by the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture as a scholarship holder at the Russian Malij Theater in Moscow . Among their instructors there was Aleksandar Petrovich Lensky .

After four years of training, Budewska returned to Bulgaria in 1899 and played " Salsa i Smjach " (tear and laughter) in Sofia . She made her debut there with the role of Wassilissa Melentiewa from the play of the same name by the Russian playwright Alexander Nikolajewitsch Ostrowski . Between 1906 and 1926 Budewska played in the national theater "Ivan Wasow". There she met the actor Christo Gantschew know and married him.

She was released in 1926 and emigrated to her son in South America in 1937 and only returned in 1948 with the end of the Tsarist regime and the expansion of the People's Republic of Bulgaria . In early 1949, her 70th birthday was celebrated across the country.

Andriana Budewska died on December 9, 1955 in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. Today the Drama Theater in Burgas bears her name.
