Adrianna Biermaier

Adrianna Biermaier , née Adrianna Bilik (born May 18, 1945 in Eitzing ) is a former Austrian basketball player .

Life

Biermaier, née Bilik, was born in Eitzing, Upper Austria, and in 1946 she moved with her mother to her home in Soporna , Slovakia . There she became Slovak youth champion in table tennis , in 1963 she took part in the Table Tennis World Championship in Prague for Czechoslovakia . As early as 1962 she also played basketball at Slovan Bratislava . In the run-up to the basketball world championship, she took part in the preparation of the Czechoslovak national team, but was not considered for the tournament because her father lived in Austria . Biermaier then went back to Austria, played basketball at Union Kuenring and won seven Austrian championship titles with the team in seven years. She married the basketball coach Erich Biermaier.

In 1973 she moved to France, where she played for the clubs Clermont Universite Club and Association Sportive Montferrand. With Clermont she became French champion and reached the European Cup final. In her last year in France, Biermaier was the best basket scorer in the league.

After her return to Austria in 1976 Biermaier played for ABC Donau and then for DBB Vienna. With ABC Donau, she reached the quarter-finals of the European club competition Ronchetti-Cup in 1978, and in the 1984/85 season she repeated this success with DBB Vienna. She ended her playing career in 1990. Biermaier won the Austrian championship twelve times and came second five times. In 14 seasons she was the best scorer in the Austrian league. By 1990 she scored more than 13,000 points in the league. Her highest score in a first division game was 92 and in the European Cup 66 (1979 against Sporting Club Athens).

With the Austrian national team she took part in the European championships in 1970 and 1972. In both tournaments she was the best thrower in her team with 19.1 and 23.5 points respectively. At the EC 72 she achieved the best points average (23.5) of all participating players, at the EC tournament in 1970 she was fourth across the teams with 19.1.

She later moved to the Greek island of Skiathos with her husband Erich .
