Šoporňa (Hungarian Sopornya ) is a municipality in western Slovakia with 4154 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019), which is located in the Okres Galanta , part of the Trnavský kraj .
geography
The municipality is located in the Slovakian Danube lowlands near the Kráľová reservoir ( vodná nádrž Kráľová ), through whose Waag flows, between the towns of Sereď (9 km) and Šaľa (13 km), about halfway between Trnava and Nitra ( expressway R1 ).
The southern settlement of Štrkovec belongs to the municipality .
history
The place was first mentioned as Supruni in 1251 .
In the village there is a church from 1770 and a classical chapel of St. Anna from 1750.
