Adriano Emperado

Adriano D. Emperado (born June 16, 1926 in Honolulu , Territory of Hawaii , † April 4, 2009 in Maui ) is the founder of the martial art Kajukenbo .

Emperado grew up in a poor part of Honolulu. He received his martial arts training from William KS Chow and his teacher James Mitose . From these teachings he received on August 10, 1950 the rank of 5th degree black belt . In 1951 he took part in advanced training (for teachers) with James Mitosis. These classes took place in James Mitose's residence and in the gym on Emma Street, which then became known as the official self-defense club. In 1952 he received his teacher status from mitosis. Emperado was given the title of " Professor " by the (later) Professor Lum and the (existing) Professors Kamfu, Wong and Lau - King of the Chinese Physical Society of Hawaii .

Adriano Emperado gained recognition by training thousands of men, women and children in the various forms of self-defense through the practical application of martial arts. He taught a. a. Army personnel and the Honolulu Police Department.
