Adrien Henri Laurent de Jussieu
Adrien Henri Laurent de Jussieu (born December 23, 1797 in Paris , † June 29, 1853 ibid), better known as Adrien de Jussieu , was a French botanist . Its official botanical author abbreviation is “ A.Juss. "
Live and act
Adrien Henri Laurent de Jussieu was a son of the botanist Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu . The title of his dissertation was De Euphorbiacearum generibus medicisque earundem viribus tentamen , published in Paris in 1824. He published botanical articles on three plant families: in 1825 on the diamond family (Rutaceae), 1830 on the mahogany family (Meliaceae) and in 1843 on the Malpighia family (Malpighiaceae) and was a member of the editorial team of the botanical journal Flore des serres et des jardins de l'Europe published by Louis van Houtte . He contributed to the entry "Taxonomy" in the Dictionnaire universelle d'histoire naturelle . He also published the Introductio in historiain plantarum , written by his father, in Paris without a date; this work was a fragment of Antoine Laurent de Jussieu's planned second edition of the Genera work , which he could no longer complete.
His father handed over the management of his Jardin des Plantes to him in 1826 . He died in Paris on June 29, 1853, leaving behind two daughters.
Honors
Adrien Henri Laurent de Jussieu was elected a member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina in 1824 . In 1831 he was accepted into the Académie des Sciences . In 1850 he was elected a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
The asteroid (9470) Jussieu was named in honor of him and Bernard , Joseph and Antoine-Laurent de Jussieu.
Also the plant genus Adriana Gaudich. from the milkweed family (Euphorbiaceae) is named after Adrien Henri Laurent de Jussieu.
