Adrien Quatennens (born May 23, 1990 ) is a French politician . Jean-Luc Mélenchon's confidante has been a member of the National Assembly from the North Department since 2017 and coordinator of the La France insoumise party since 2019 .

life and career

Studies and youth

Quatennens was born on May 23, 1990, the son of an executive at Électricité de France (EDF) and a saleswoman.

At the age of 15 he expressed his political opinion for the first time during the demonstrations against the Contrat première embauche in 2005. In addition, he campaigned for aid organizations for the homeless and the globalization-critical non-governmental organization Attac . In 2008 he obtained a baccalaureate in economics and social sciences and began studying economics at the University of Lille . Then completed a commercial apprenticeship at Électricité de France. Before moving to the National Assembly, he worked as a client advisor at EDF in Lille .

Use in the parti de gauche

Quatennens supported Jean-Luc Mélenchon in 2008 and joined the Parti de gauche (PG) in 2013 . Two years later he became a member of the National Board of the PG. He fought for the candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon in the 2012 presidential election and again in the 2017 presidential election through the La France insoumise movement , which he joined when it was founded in February 2016. Together with Ugo Bernalicis , he became secretary of the Parti de Gauche in the Nord department in Lille.

Quatennens ran in the 2014 local elections in Lille on the electoral list of the Front de gauche , which was led by Hugo Vandamme.

Member of La France insoumise

In the 2017 parliamentary elections , Quatennens ran for La France insoumise in the first constituency of the Nord département and received 19.38 percent of the vote in the first round of elections, against 32.61 percent for the LaREM candidate Christophe Itier with an abstention rate of 53 percent. However, he won the second round of voting with 50.11 percent of the vote (abstention: 61.65 pts) and entered the National Assembly on June 21st.

In the National Assembly he is a member of the Committee on Social Affairs. In this role, at the beginning of his term of office in 2017, he took part in the deliberations of the labor legislation reform project, against which he submitted an application for rejection. During his early days as a MP, he drew media attention, particularly when he gave a half-hour speech on July 10th.

Quatennens is vice-chairman of the France-Greece and France-Denmark friendship groups of the National Assembly.

He advocated other issues such as B. for the legislative proposal by La France insoumise for the recognition of the mental pathologies of burnout syndrome as occupational diseases.

On June 22, 2019, Quatennens was appointed coordinator of the party at a representative meeting of La France insoumise. In this position he followed Manuel Bompard .
