Adrienne von Speyr (born September 20, 1902 in La Chaux-de-Fonds , † September 17, 1967 in Basel ) was a Swiss doctor , mystic and spiritual writer .

Life

Speyr's parents were Theodor von Speyr -Girard (1868–1918) Dr. med., ophthalmologist and Laure Adele von Speyr-Girard (1877–1956). Her first marriage was to Emil Dürr (1883–1934), after whose death she married Werner Kaegi, his successor as history professor at the University of Basel in 1935 .

Coming from a Protestant family, she converted to Catholicism and was baptized sub conditione on November 1, 1940 by Hans Urs von Balthasar , with whom she later founded the Johannesgemeinschaft and whose theological work she played a decisive role in.

Adrienne von Speyr dictated most of her works; their dictations were then edited for publication by Hans Urs von Balthasar . All of Adrienne von Speyr's writings are available from Johannes Verlag Einsiedeln. In addition to numerous Bible commentaries, u. a. A four-volume study of the Gospel of John and works on theological and spiritual questions, the mystical work in the narrower sense is in the so-called estate volumes.
