Gisbert Greshake

Gisbert Greshake (born October 10, 1933 in Recklinghausen ) is a Roman Catholic theologian and professor of dogmatics .

Life

From 1954 to 1961 Greshake studied philosophy , Catholic theology and church music at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . He was ordained a priest in 1960 and received his doctorate in 1969 after several years of pastoral work with Walter Kasper at the University of Münster. He completed his habilitation in 1972 at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen , where he was appointed associate professor in 1973. In 1974 he accepted a professorship for dogmatic theology and history of dogma at the University of Vienna and held the chair for dogmatic and ecumenical theology at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg from 1985 until his retirement in 1999 . From 1998 to 2006 he was a permanent visiting professor at the Gregoriana in Rome.

The focus of his theological research and teaching are eschatology ("resurrection in death"), doctrine of grace, spirituality ( desert fathers , Charles de Foucauld ) and communio theology .

His smaller writings and the sources of spiritual life published by him together with Josef Weismayer (4 vols. Mainz 1980–1993) have attracted attention beyond the narrower theological area.
