Jacob Kremer

Jacob Kremer (born December 8, 1924 in Kohlscheid (today: Herzogenrath ), Germany ; † February 13, 2010 in Vienna , Austria ) was a Roman Catholic priest , theologian and New Testament scholar . He is considered an important biblical scholar of the 20th century.

Life

Jacob Kremer studied in Bonn and Rome philosophy and theology and was at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome to Dr. theol. PhD . In October 1952 he was ordained a priest . Until 1968 he was Professor of Biblical Theology in the Aachen seminary , then Professor at the Pedagogical University of Rhineland and from 1972 until his retirement in 1995 he was Professor of New Testament Biblical Studies at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna . As part of adult education, Kremer has been teaching the New Testament subject since the early 1970s in the Viennese Theological Course , which was headed by his assistant and student Walter Kirchschläger from 1980 to 1982 .

From the very beginning of his academic career, Kremer was an advocate of historical-critical exegesis and a staunch opponent of fundamentalist, literal interpretation of the Bible . In addition to scientific research, church Bible pastoral care was a particular concern of his.
