Aemilian Rosengart

Æmilian Joseph Rosengart , OSB (born March 29, 1757 in Kirchheim , † May 29, 1810 in Tannheim ) was a Swabian theologian , philosopher , composer and musician .

biography

Æmilian Rosengart was a contemporary of Mozart and Haydn . He attended an Augustinian school in Ulm . Rosengart made his profession in 1775 and was ordained a priest in 1781 . In the Benedictine imperial abbey of Ochsenhausen he taught as a professor of theology and philosophy and was appointed music director by Abbot Romuald Welt in 1795, after all he was deputy abbot for a short time from 1803 during the secularization . After that he was pastor in Tannheim until his death.

About 90 of his compositions of sacred choral music have been preserved. Rosengart shows a great variety of styles in his sacred arias. More than half of these are hymns and are usually composed of well-known texts. Rosengart wrote mostly for four-part choirs or solo parts with organ, strings, often two flutes and two horns.
