history

The company was founded in 2006 in Santa Clara , California under the name Aeria Games & Entertainment . Initially, Aeria Games limited itself to games for the computer, only since 2012 the company has also been offering mobile games. The company's first released game was Last Chaos , which became a huge hit in the United States . Two more games followed in 2007, establishing the company on the market.

In 2008 the first international office was opened in Berlin, opening up the European market. Aeria Games thus reaches more than 15 million players worldwide. Shaiya , which was published in the USA in 2007, was completely translated into German. The game was named the best MMORPG in 2007 and is still distributed by Aeria to this day. For this game, the company extended the contract with Nexon in 2012 for additional years for both the European and American markets.

The first first-person - MMORPG published Aeria Games in 2009 under the name Wolf Team . With the start of this game, servers were set up in France and Turkey. A second office followed in São Paulo , Brazil.

Browser games such as DDTank , Lords Online and Pirate Galaxy have now been added to the Aeria Games portfolio . In 2010 the company expanded its portfolio to include more browser games. Shortly thereafter, the company released the company's biggest hit to date, the MMORPG: Eden Eternal .

At the end of 2011, Aeria Games bought Ijji , a games portal that sold free MMORPGs. In addition to first-person shooters, this company's portfolio also included games from other categories. The company's three main games were GunZ , Soldier Front, and Alliance of Valiant Arms (AVA) - the latter two games will continue to be distributed by Aeria Games.

In early 2012, Aeria launched a mobile service for which it launched games like Monster Paradise and Immortalis . This service is also to be connected to the Aeria Ignite platform. So far it has been possible to download the mobile applications via Ignite. In April 2012, Sony's So-net Entertainment invested in Aeria Games, becoming the company's second external investor. So-net is also the owner of Gamepot , which merged with Aeria Games in 2012. After the merger, up to 600 employees [as of December 2012] will work for the company worldwide.

Gamepot is known, among other things, for the publication of Dynasty Warriors Online . The portfolio of the two companies now includes more than 50 PC and mobile games in 11 languages.

The company's largest publication includes the sci-fi role-playing game Scarlet Blade , which is marketed on German television through the partnership with ProSiebenSat.1 Games. Aeria Games also entered into a partnership with Roccat , a manufacturer of gaming accessories. Aeria Games has been criticized by several sources for publishing this online role-playing game.

All of the company's games are offered as free-to-play and are therefore free of charge. So-called micropayments can be carried out within the game , which are made with the help of the game currency Aeria Points (AP).

The company's portfolio includes fan-fantasy MMORPGs, mobile multiplayer games and online games in Japanese manga and anime styles. Aeria Games currently offers games on computers, tablets and smartphones . In addition to MMORPGs, this also includes browser games . The company's newest game is Scarlet Blade . In September 2013, the company announced the game Aura Kingdom , which is due to be released shortly.

On December 7th, 2013 gamigo AG acquired the North American license for the portfolio product Last Chaos from Aeria Games.

On February 27, 2014 it was announced that the German subsidiary Aeria Games Europe GmbH, based in Berlin, would be taken over by the ProSiebenSat.1 Group . This makes ProSiebenSat.1 the third largest games publisher in Europe.

On May 30, 2016, gamigo AG ("gamigo", bond WKN: A1TNJY) and Aeria Games Europe GmbH announced a strategic merger of their companies and are taking the next step together in building a leading platform to consolidate the European games market. However, the agreement is still subject to approval by the relevant antitrust authorities. In the course of the transaction, ProSiebenSat.1 will bring its 100% stake in Aeria Games to gamigo AG and will become a minority shareholder in the merged publisher with 33 percent. ProSiebenSat.1 took over Aeria Games Europe in February 2014 and since then has been promoting the publisher's mobile business in particular.

Aeria Ignite

Ignite is a free service from Aeria Games that was launched in May 2012. The platform offers the player the opportunity to manage all the games in the Aeria portfolio within one program. Other features are the involvement of the community and support . In the closed beta phase , the platform already had 200,000 active users per day.
