Maestia (until 2012: Shattered Light ; since 2012: Rise of Keledus ) is a fantasy MMORPG that was developed by Bigpoint in 2010 and marketed on the German market by the ProSiebenSat.1 Group . In 2012 the game moved from the in-house host site and servers to that of Alaplaya and was fundamentally revised; at that time it also changed developers. In 2013, the South Korean developer Andromeda Games became the game's developer and focused on bonus distributions. In mid-2014, Maestia changed hosts again and is now part of Aeria Games .

Over time, players and moderators complained more and more about the developer's lack of interest in implementing new content and objects, as well as ending existing events, which is why there was a brisk departure. Aeria Games therefore announced on February 24, 2016 that the developer had withdrawn in 2014 and that the game would be discontinued on March 31, 2016. Some of the game's skins, including those of the classes and monsters, can be found in a mobile game from Andromeda Games.

Maestia is a free-to-play game. It can be downloaded and played for free. Real money can be used to buy virtual goods such as mounts and EXP / Gold amplifiers (AP / Aeria points).

In-game story

The goddess Ia rules the land of Maestia, in which the lands of Delphi, Papyrus, Pectus, Lipido, Tenebra, Superion and Cinis are located. She and her entourage help the residents and keep the country in balance. One day, however, Keledus rises and can overthrow her after a fierce battle. Since then, the world of Maestia has been haunted by monsters. As a result, two factions have formed: the Temple Knights , who want to bring the goddess back and restore the old order, and the Superion Guardians , who want to defeat Keledus and usher in a self-determined era.

Both factions not only fight against Keledus and his overseers, but also against each other and compete in arenas.

Career

Maestia stood out in its early years for the detailed armor, weapons and mounts. At its peak from 2010 to 2012, more than a million players played Maestia every day. But this changed after the platform was changed and many players did not migrate to Alaplaya or only did so with a main account.

From 2012 to the end of 2013 / beginning of 2014 about half a million players played Maestia regularly; However, this amount was turned away with the Christmas event of 2013, which lasted until summer 2014 and already pointed to the lack of interest from Andromeda. When Aeria Games took over the game in mid-2014, another part of the players had already dropped out and it was not until autumn that Aeria had contact with the developer again and was finally able to patch away the Christmas event.

Then came an attempt to bind long-time players who had characters of the highest level with the help of an add-on called Agatar , and the level limit was raised to 105, with the promise of taking more care of the game again and gradually increasing the level limit to 120 (the name of a new region also appeared on the map). In addition, monthly waves of gifts were announced, with which one could get items and mounts.

However, this led to a dead end. When the level limit was still at 105 a year later, the notice on the map disappeared again for no further reasons and since then no new content or events have been published, another part of the players jumped off, who are now regularly useless for high-level characters , Items were littered.

Aeria Games pulled the rip cord in February 2016 when it was noticed that the developer himself no longer used any resources for Maestia and neither developed the announced expansions for the game nor provided patches.

criticism

Especially in the forums and in the chat there was the criticism among players that Maestia was designed for Pay2Win with increasing level. If you didn't have a guild or a permanently gathering group of players, from level 80 it was very difficult to level up without a real money aid package. Sending special items or safely reinforcing weapons and equipment, which is necessary on the higher levels, also cost real money.

Another point of criticism was the character redesign that was done when switching to Alaplaya, which resulted in many players dropping out.

The point that broke Maestia's neck was the 2013 Christmas event and the subsequent migration half a year later. As the event lasted into summer 2014, it was clear to the players that Maestia would not exist much longer. They turned away and stopped migrating from Alaplaya to Aeria. The community could not cope with this massive departure and could no longer be compensated. After that, Maestia was a ghost MMO and numerous guilds, as well as the previously overflowing chat, were practically extinct.

Even the game masters who had organized events and were the contact persons for bugs no longer took part in the game and could only be contacted via the forum.

Due to the breakdown of the community, it was almost impossible to advance to the higher levels without money, the player-vs-player events were largely extinct and the expert dungeons, where you also got powerful armor sets, were for one Person not feasible alone. As a result, the community continued to shrink, which led to a vicious circle.
