The Alenia Aermacchi M-345 is a beginner's training aircraft with a turbofan engine from the Italian aircraft manufacturer Alenia Aermacchi . Originally developed by SIAI-Marchetti , it was called S.211 for a long time . In 1997 the company was taken over by Aermacchi and the latter by Alenia in 2006 , which is why the model was temporarily called Alenia Aermacchi M-211 , and after a revision it was M-311 . The name was changed to M-345 HET (High Efficiency Trainer) in 2012. With the new name, Alenia Aermacchi hopes to be able to better market the inexpensive beginner's trainer together with the advanced trainer Alenia Aermacchi M-346 .

history

M-311
Current version M-345 at the Paris Air Show 2013

This project was a private initiative started in 1976 by the SIAI-Marchetti company. Orders from the Italian Air Force were not to be expected, as they wanted to replace their Aermacchi MB-326 with the revised MB-339. The inexpensive and low-maintenance S-211 was intended exclusively for export. The prototype of the S-211 took off on April 10, 1981 from Milan-Malpensa airport on its maiden flight. Deliveries began in November 1984 and lasted until July 1985. A total of almost 60 aircraft were ordered: Singapore received 30 aircraft, 24 of which were assembled on site, the Philippines acquired 19 aircraft, 15 of which were assembled by a local company. Haiti was unable to pay for the four aircraft it ordered. They went to private operators along with a few others.

The machine is still offered by Aermacchi in the revised version M-345HET ( High Efficiency Trainer ), which is located slightly below the Aermacchi MB-339 and the successor model Aermacchi M-346 .
