The Macchi M.33 was an Italian flying boat that was built to take part in the Schneider Trophy in 1925.

history

The 1925 competition was held in Baltimore , Maryland , USA . Two Macchi M.33 took part, flown by Giovanni De Briganti and Lieutenant Morselli. De Briganti achieved third place with his bike with an average speed of 271.08 km / h. Macchi was far behind - the winner's speed was 374.28 km / h. The following year Macchi appeared with the conventional M.39 design with a racing engine from Fiat and won.

construction

The single-seat wooden flying boat was powered by a US high-performance Curtiss engine in a power unit above the fuselage. The two-blade propeller was taken directly from the crankshaft of the twelve-cylinder - V-engine driven.
