African Herbsman (Engl .: African herbalist ) is of Lee Perry produced Reggae - album of Jamaican reggae legend Bob Marley and his band The Wailers . It was released in 1973 shortly after the album Catch a Fire , which achieved international success for the first time.

African Herbsman is a collection of many early versions of titles that later appeared on other albums and thus became more popular. B. Lively Up Yourself or Sun Is Shining . In contrast to Marley's later albums, the recordings collected here sound rather brittle (or, as experts say: Jamaican-authentic), which for some speaks for the apparently best musical phase of Marley, since here the classic reggae, still with elements of dub , Rocksteady and Ska , is performed. The album is particularly appealing because it was the only Bob Marley and The Wailers album to be produced by producer, musician and dubmixer legend Lee Perry, who added a special touch to the sound.
