Afshin Assadian

Afshin Assadian (born November 13, 1970 in Vienna ) is an Austrian vascular surgeon , president of the Austrian Society for Vascular Surgery and head of the clinical department for vascular and endovascular surgery at the Wilhelminenspital in Vienna.

Life

Afshin Assadian studied human medicine at the University of Vienna , where he received his doctorate in 1996. He then passed the first part of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) and began his clinical work in Great Britain. While working in Great Britain, he completed the second part of the USMLE. Shortly after starting his surgical training at the Wilhelminenspital in Vienna, he completed the third part of the USMLE in 2001 as part of a stay at the University of Chicago in pathology with a focus on vascular pathology and thus obtained approval for clinical work in the USA.

In 2005 Assadian passed the Austrian specialist examination for surgery and in 2007 he specialized by completing the European specialist examination for vascular surgery (ESBQ-VASC). Seven years after starting his training at the Wilhelminenspital, he completed his habilitation in surgery at the Medical University of Vienna at the end of 2007 .

In the following years Assadian worked at Stanford University and at Klinikum rechts der Isar in Munich.

Since 2009 he has been head of the Department of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the Wilhelminenspital Vienna. In addition to his clinical and teaching activities, Assadian is on the board of the Austrian Society for Vascular Surgery , Board member of the Vascular International Foundation , scientific spokesman for the Vascular Forum Austria and President-elect of the Austrian Society for Vascular Surgery 2019-2020 as well as a member of the Vienna State Medical Council.

Assadian is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications. In addition, in 2019 he will publish the first comprehensive patient guide for vascular health and therapies in cooperation with Verlag der Ärzte. Assadian lives in Vienna with his wife and two children.
