Three travelers, the American Gringo, Ariel and Pollo, travel through Chile . They celebrate in a club and meet three young women, the sisters Monica and Kylie and their Russian friend Irina. The two groups join forces and travel together to Valparaíso . There they are celebrating in another club when an earthquake occurs. Many party-goers are killed and some lie under rubble. Ariel's hand is cut off while trying to help a trapped bartender. The group tries to get out, but the exit is blocked by further falling debris. The club cleaner leads them through a tunnel to a nearby hole. As they climb out, a passing truck hits the old lady and kills her. Once on the street, the group tries to get to their car, but it is destroyed. Ariel's condition continues to worsen due to blood loss and the group decides to take him to the hospital on the top of the hill as soon as possible. Suddenly a tsunami warning sounds and everyone rushes to the cable car station that could quickly take them up the mountain. After intensive negotiations, the owner agrees that Ariel can board the gondola. The group is watching the cable car reach the top of the hill when suddenly a frayed cable breaks, causing the train to fall back all the way and be destroyed, killing all occupants. After mourning the death of their friend, the group heads to the cemetery and tries to reach the cathedral at the top of the hill through a previously mentioned hidden tunnel. The group encounters a celebration on the street by looters who are escaped prisoners from a nearby prison that was damaged during the earthquake. They try to walk past, but the women in the group grab the looters' attention. While he runs away, a part of the building runs up against Gringo and fixes him in place, alive and conscious. Monica and Pollo go for help while Irina and Kylie stay with Gringo. While seeking help, Monica and Pollo come across a runaway fire truck. The truck crashes and one of the firefighters in the cabin is killed by wooden beams while the other is trapped. Pollo and Monica bring out the living firefighter. He explains that some inmates tried to take over the fire truck and it got out of hand. Meanwhile, while Irina tries to comfort the badly injured gringo, Kylie hears the convicts approach. Gringo tells Kylie and Irina to go into hiding and says they just want his money. The women hide in the graves while the prisoners threaten gringo. They pour alcohol on him and threaten to set him on fire if he doesn't tell them where the women are. Frightened, Gringo points to her hiding place with his eyes. Irina crawls out of her hiding place and tries to run away. She is captured by the convicts. Their leader rapes them while the rest of the gang sit around telling jokes. Gringo throws a stone at the leader and tries to stop him from doing his wrong. The enraged leader sets him on fire and burns gringo alive. Kylie, hearing all the chaos outside, decides to run away. The gang follows her, but the leader's brother stays behind to continue rape Irina. Kylie can run away and meet Monica and the others. They go back to Irina and Pollo kills the leader's brother with an ax. Just as the group is about to flee, the prisoners return. The leader sees his brother's corpse, fires at her and kills Irina. The rest of the group managed to escape and encounter a cordoned off building with survivors. A single mother doesn't want to let her through, but her neighbor wants to open the gate. When Pollo asks, the woman shoots him in the chest and injures him. The others help carry it away and decide to hide it so they can get help. Pollo's phone suddenly rings and one of the prisoners hears it and finds him. The prisoners kill him and go after the others. The group eventually arrives at the cathedral, where they are saved by a priest who closes the door just in time. When another aftershock sets in, the cathedral begins to fall apart. The priest leads them to a secret passage in the cathedral. As the group descends a ladder through the secret passage, another aftershock shakes the ladder off. The priest falls to her death and Kylie falls on a metal object that pierces her thigh. Monica is now stranded alone at the top as she was the last to go down the ladder. The firefighter tries to help Kylie by removing the object and taking off his own coat to try to stop the bleeding. By taking off his coat, he reveals the prison tattoos on his arms and shoulders. He turns out to be one of the escaped prisoners who took over the fire truck. Kylie panics. She promises she won't tell anyone. Monic finds some ropes and goes down the ladder shaft. She finds Kylie's body in one of the tunnels. The fake firefighter tries to kill her, but an aftershock occurs and Monica manages to kill him with the ax. Monica eventually manages to escape through the tunnel and onto a beach. She walks confused along the beach to finally get to safety. When she turns around, she sees a tsunami wave coming towards her.
