Agave filifera subsp. microceps is a subspecies of the plant species from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Dwarf Thread Agave".

description

Agave filifera subsp. microceps forms dense, multi-headed rosettes with a height of 20 to 30 cm and a diameter of 20 to 35 cm. The linear to variable lanceolate, light green, pointed leaves are 12 to 20 cm long and 1 to 2 cm wide. The white-fibrous leaf margins form a brownish or purple-gray wide margin.

The spike-shaped inflorescence is 1 to 1.50 m high. The light yellow to green flowers are 50 to 55 mm long and appear in pairs on the upper part of the inflorescence.

The moon-shaped, black seeds are 4 to 4.5 mm long, up to 2.5 mm wide and up to 1.5 mm thick.

The flowering period extends from June to July.

Systematics and distribution

Agave filifera subsp. microceps grows in mountainous regions in the state of Sinaloa, Mexico .

The first description by Myron William Kimnach was published in 1995. Synonyms are Agave filifera var. Compacta Trel. (1914) and Agave microceps (Kimnach) A.Vázquez & Cházaro (2007).

Agave filifera subsp. microceps is a representative of the Filiferae section . It forms narrow rosettes with short, broad leaves. The species is closely related to Agave filifera , but differences in shape, size, leaf and flower structure are recognizable. Agave filifera subsp. microceps is grown in the Huntington Botanic Garden in San Marino, California.
