Agave nussaviorum is a plant from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Papalometi, Papalome Agave".

description

Agave nussaviorum grows solitary with a height of 30 to 50 cm and is 40 to 60 cm wide. The lanceolate, elongated to ovate stiff, light green to bluish curved leaves are 12 to 40 cm long and 5 to 11 cm wide. The leaf margins are serrated irregularly. The brown to gray, variable needle-shaped terminal mandrel is up to 3 cm long.

The paniculate, straight inflorescence is 1.5 to 6 m high. The yellow-colored, loosely arranged bell-shaped flowers appear in the upper half of the inflorescence and are 50 to 70 mm long. The flower tube is up to 4.5 cm long.

The elongated three-chamber capsule fruits are 45 to 65 mm long and 20 to 25 mm wide. The shiny, black, moon-shaped seeds are 5 to 7 mm long and 4 to 6 mm wide.

The flowering period extends from August to December.

Systematics and distribution

Agave nussaviorum grows in Mexico in the state of Oaxaca in forest and grassland at an altitude of 1700 to 2500 m. It is associated with Nolina spec. and other types.

The first description by Abisai Josue García-Mendoza was published in 2010.

Agave nussaviorum is common in the state of Oaxaca , Mexico. The representatives of the subgenus Agave of the Himieflorae group Agave potatorum and Agave seemanniana , which occur in the greater Oaxaca and Puebla area, overlap the distribution area. The Agave nussaviorum of the subgenus Littaea from the greater Oaxaca region, newly described by Garcia-Mendoza in 2010, is exceptional. It is closely related to Agave potatorum and Agave seemanniana which, however, differ significantly in their rosette, leaf and flower structure. It seems possible that Agave nussaviorum is a natural hybrid between Agave potatorum and Agave seemanniana . Further research is needed to confirm the status of the species.
