Agave vazquezgarciae is a plant from the genus of the Agave ( agave ). An English common name is "Mezcal Agave".

description

Agave vazquezgarciae grows solitary with a height of 60 to 120 cm and is 90 to 180 cm wide. The light green to bluish, variably arranged, lanceolate to almost elliptical, succulent, fibrous leaves are 40 to 90 cm long and 9 to 17 cm wide. The leaf margins are finely serrated. The reddish, dark brown to black terminal mandrel is 4 to 6.5 cm long.

The annual to racemose, straight or curved inflorescence with numerous, dense groups of flowers is 5 to 7 m high. The green to yellow colored numerous flowers are 52 to 94 mm long, appear on the lower part of the inflorescence and form up to the tip on the variably arranged, dense, short branches. The flower tube is 6 to 10 mm long.

The elongated to egg-shaped three-chambered capsule fruits are 18 to 24 mm long. The black seeds are 3 to 4 mm long and 2 to 3 mm wide.

The flowering period extends from January to February.

Systematics and distribution

Agave vazquezgarciae grows endemically in Mexico in the state of Jalisco in woodland at 1550 to 2100 m altitude. It is associated with various types of succulents.

The first description by Miguel de J. Cházaro-Basañez and José Aquileo Lomelí-Sención was published in 2006.

Agave vazquezgarciae is a representative of the Amolae group and only grows on the northern slopes of the Sierra de Manantlan and partly in the mountainous regions of the Sierra de Cacoma and Sierra de Cuale regions in Mexico. Although the area together with the Chamela Bay region is botanically very well explored (Lott 1985, 1993: Vazquez-Garcia et al. 1995: Vazquez-Garcia 2000), the species was discovered only recently. Agave vazquezgarciae is closely related to the geographically isolated Agave pendunculifera , but differences in size, leaf and flower structure are recognizable.
