Agawa Hiroyuki ( Japanese 阿川 弘 之 , born  December 24, 1920 in Hiroshima , † August 3, 2015 in Tokyo ) was a Japanese writer .

Life

Agawa Hiroyuki studied Japanese literature at the Imperial University of Tōkyō , where he received the degree of Baccalaureus artium ( Bungakushi ). In 1942 he was drafted into the Navy.

Agawa made his writing debut in 1946 as an ardent admirer of Shiga Naoya with the short story "Nenen saisai" (年年 歳 歳), which is about a soldier who returns to the city of Hiroshima after the atomic bomb was dropped. Many of his stories are about his experience as a naval officer. His well-known works include Haru no Shiro ( 春 の 城 , "The Spring Castle ") or Kumo no Bohyō ( 雲 の 墓 標 , German "Tomb in the Clouds") the trilogy Yamamoto Isoroku (1980), Yonai Mitsumasa , Inoue Seibi ( 1986).

Agawa was honorary chairman of the Japanese Association of Friends Lee Teng-huis ( 日本 李登輝 友 の 会 , Nihon Ri Tōki tomo no kai )

He is an honorary citizen of Hiroshima Prefecture , was a member of the Japanese Academy of Arts and honorary chairman of the Japanese Association of Friends Lee Teng-huis ( 日本 李登輝 友 の 会 , Nihon Ri Tōki tomo no kai ), which seeks to strengthen Japanese-Taiwanese relations.

His son was the lawyer Agawa Naoyuki ( 阿川 尚 之 ), his daughter the television presenter and writer Agawa Sawako ( 阿川 佐 和 子 ).
