The agency for innovation in cybersecurity is a federal agency under development based at Leipzig / Halle Airport . It is headed by Research Director Christoph Igel . The agency is the first cross-departmental company of the Federal Ministry of Defense and the Federal Ministry of the Interior, for Building and Home Affairs . The budget is 350 million euros. The interim location is the city of Halle (Saale) until 2022 .

tasks

The object of the agency is the targeted award of contracts for ambitious research projects with high innovation potential in the field of cybersecurity and related key technologies to meet the state's needs in the field of internal and external security. In particular, the agency is intended to support those innovative projects which, through radical technological innovations, can have a market-changing effect. The goals are to maintain technological sovereignty in the cyber and information space and to award demand-oriented and targeted research contracts on ambitious cybersecurity technologies and related key technologies.

As a project sponsor, the agency aims to stimulate, finance and coordinate medium and long-term research on cybersecurity issues.

history

The federal government decided in August 29, 2018 to an agency for innovation in cyber security building . On July 3, 2019, a letter of intent was signed by the two leading Federal Ministries of the Interior, Building and Home Affairs and Defense, as well as the State of Saxony-Anhalt and the Free State of Saxony . In the fourth quarter of 2019, the budget committee of the German Bundestag dealt with the establishment of the agency. The agency was founded in the second quarter of 2020.
