The Agenzia delle Dogane ( German "Customs Agency") is the Italian customs administration authority . It reports to the Finance Department ( Dipartimento delle Finanze ) of the Ministry of Economy and Finance in Rome .

tasks

The Agenzia delle Dogane , an administratively independent authority in the portfolio of the Italian Ministry of Finance, ensures and manages the revenue from customs duties . The agency monitors imports, transit and exports and takes on the related governmental administrative tasks. The Agenzia delle Dogane is first and foremost a fiscal administration authority, but it also performs some enforcement tasks. In the latter area (see Customs Investigation Service ) there is close cooperation with the Guardia di Finanza , the Italian financial police.

Several central departments report to the head of the agency. a. are responsible for internal audits , personnel and legal issues, international relations, etc. There are 14 regional directorates for the operational area, but they are not organized exactly like the Italian regions . The customs offices (80) with their branch offices (175) are subordinate to the regional directorates . The customs officers working here are administrative officials, and the enforcement tasks are carried out by members of the Guardia di Finanza . The agency has a total of around 10,000 employees.

history

The Agenzia delle Dogane was created in 2000 as part of a general reform of the Italian ministerial bureaucracy. After the Ministry of Finance was merged with the Ministry of Budget and Treasury to form the new Ministry of Economy and Finance, it became necessary to create various administratively independent authorities within the scope of the new Ministry. In addition to the Agenzia delle Dogane , these new “ agencies ” also include the Agenzia delle Entrate , the Italian tax administration authority.
