Agerø is a small Danish island in the Limfjord between the Thyholm peninsula and the island of Mors . It covers an area of ​​3.85 km² and is inhabited by 30 people (January 1, 2020). Agerø belonged to the parish community ( Danish : Sogn ) Hvidbjerg Sogn , which until 1970 belonged to Harde Morsø Sønder Herred in what was then Thisted Amt , since then to Morsø Kommune in Viborg Amt , which remained untouched by the municipal reform on January 1, 2007 and is now part of the region Nordjylland belongs. Agerø is connected to the island of Mors in the north by a dam. Agerø has its own church, which is located at the highest point in the middle of the island and offers a wide view of the fjord. It was inaugurated in 1908 and is surrounded by a wall that encloses a small cemetery. An inscription commemorates Pastor Jens H. Markvorsen, with thanks for his great selfless youth work and his care for the sick, old people and the church during his parish from 1923 until his death in 1950 .

The greater part of the island consists of cultivated farmland, along the coast there are wooded areas, shallow water zones and coastal meadows that are used by many birds as resting and feeding places. 26 hectares of the north-western coastal strip are a reserve under the supervision of the Danish Bird Protection Foundation. Agerø among ornithologists known for the rare hellbäuchige Brent Goose (Danish knortegås), which, with a total of around 7,000 copies to the smallest goose populations in the world. Around 500 specimens overwinter on Agerø from November to May. At the end of May, the Brent geese meet over the island before the larger part flies on to Svalbard to breed , while a smaller part moves to northeast Greenland . The reasons for this peculiarity are not known.

In addition, larger numbers of gray geese , oystercatchers , ringed plovers , lapwing , curlews and redshanks rest on Agerø . All year round, gray herons and peregrine falcons are on the island.
