Agios Adrianos ( Greek Άγιος Αδριανός ( m. Sg. )) Is a village and a local community in the municipality of Nafplio . The village is about 5 km northeast of the city of Nafplio.
history
The place was originally named after the Pasha Katsingr Aga ( Greek Κατσίγκρ Αγάς ) Katsingri ( Greek Κατσίγκρι ). On December 5, 1930, the place was renamed after the nearby pilgrimage church Agios Adrianos . During the Mycenaean period, the Tiryns dam was built 900 m north of the town . In ancient times, the Katsingri castle , located about 1 km to the east, served to secure the road from Argos to Epidaurus . In the village there is a residential tower that was built around 1750 and two old wells.
The place today
The inhabitants of Agios Adrianos live mainly from growing oranges and potatoes. There are also a few taverns. The drinking water supply poses a problem as the spring water has an increased nitrate content and is therefore only suitable for washing and watering the gardens. There are efforts to draw water from Lerna .
The cultural association Agios Adrianos looks after the cultural heritage of the place and publishes the two-month newspaper "Το κατσίγκρι".
