Agnes Ayres actually Agnes Hinkle , (born April 4, 1898 in Carbondale , Illinois , USA ; † December 25, 1940 in Los Angeles , USA ) was a popular American actress of the silent film era .

Life

Agnes Ayres made her film debut in 1914/1915 at Essenay Studios in Chicago . In 1919 she was hired by William Fox for Fox Studios and in 1920 she received a contract with Paramount Pictures . She received her greatest role in 1921 in The Sheikh at the side of Rudolph Valentino . She became an overnight star with this role and then played leading roles in several major Hollywood productions .

She married Frank P. Schuker in 1921 and divorced after a few months. Her second marriage to the Spanish writer, film producer and Mexican diplomat Manuel Reachi (1900–1955) was closed in 1924 and divorced in 1927; from this marriage came a daughter.

In 1929 she lost her fortune after the stock market crash . In talkies could not hold more foot and retired from the film business as an actress. She died of a cerebral hemorrhage in 1940 and was buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery .

On February 8, 1960, she was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6504 Hollywood Blvd.
