The Son of the Sheik (Original: The Son of the Sheik ) is an American silent film directed by George Fitzmaurice from 1926 with Rudolph Valentino in the leading role. It is the sequel to Valentino's film The Sheik ( The Sheik , 1921), which is also based on a novel by EM Hull .

action

The sheikh's son falls in love with the gypsy Yasmin. He is kidnapped by Yasmin's father André and other gypsies, but freed by his servant Ramadan. Since Ghaba, one of the kidnappers, told him that Yasmin was just bait, he steals her and keeps her prisoner in his tent. When his father finds out, he insists that he let the young woman go. He releases them from the hands of Ghabas when he learns the truth.

background

The film is based on a novel by Edith Maude Hull. Valentino played both father and son using split screen technology. For the buildings was William Cameron Menzies responsible. Carl Raswan provided the Sheikh's Arabian horse and rode it for the most part as Valentino's stunt double in the film itself.

In the same year Rudolph Valentino's marriage to Natacha Rambova was divorced. His career was at a low point and he hoped with this continuation of the story to repeat his great success, which he had with the filming of the first part, and to be able to overcome his low. Before the film opened in theaters, however, Valentino died while on a promotional tour.
