Agnes Eger (born February 25, 1878 in Spangenberg as Martha Josephine Christiane Agnes Eger ; † August 28, 1955 in Berlin-Pankow ) was a German painter .

Live and act

Agnes Eger's parents were the later Royal Prussian Accountant Robert Eger and Martha Eger, b. Lingelbach. She had two brothers, Friedrich and Rudolf.

The family moved to Berlin in 1890. Agnes Eger taught as a drawing teacher from October 1, 1896 to January 1, 1921. In the Berlin teacher directory of 1926 she was listed as a “retired teacher”, most recently in the elementary school Reinickendorf-Ost Lette-Allee 26-27. Agnes Eger lived with her parents until 1908, and then moved to Holsteiner Ufer 7. In 1916 and 1917 she lived in Berlin-Reinickendorf, Pankower Allee 15. Presumably in 1918 she moved to her mother in Niederschönhausen in the Kaiserin-Augusta Street 27 (today Tschaikowskistr. 62), where she lived until her death.

Agnes Eger was the master student of two professors ( Paul Verfahren and Georg Ludwig Meyn ) at the Königliche Kunstschule zu Berlin , Grunewaldstrasse 2-5 in Berlin-Schöneberg (integrated into the University of Fine Arts from 1945 ). Her artistic focus was landscape paintings and portraits (oil, watercolor, charcoal). At the Niederschönhausen Palace in Berlin, she regularly exhibited her works together with other artists in the biannual exhibitions of the Künstlerbund des Nordens. She also presents her works at the annual exhibitions of the VdBK ( Association of Berlin Artists ). B. in the years 1929, 1934, 1937, 1940, 1941, 1942. She was a member of the Reich Association of Fine Artists .

As a trained drawing teacher and by selling her paintings, she was able to earn a living. Many of the portraits were probably commissioned. Agnes Eger traveled a lot, her landscape paintings depict very different regions - the Alps, Silesia, Hesse, the Berlin area and the Baltic Sea coast (e.g. the work Fischerkate near Ahrenshoop on the Darß ). Her Norwegian sister-in-law established a relationship with Ålesund , where she captured the city, the harbor and various fjord landscapes in oil paintings. Agnes Eger became deaf at a young age. She painted until the 1940s. Slowly progressive blindness forced her to give up her job. Until her death in August 1955, Agnes Eger's brother Rudolf and his wife Ingeborg took care of the artist. Agnes Eger was 77 years old.
