Agnes of Meissen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Agnes von Meißen (* before 1264, † after September 1332 ) was a daughter of Albrecht II ( the degenerate ) and Margaretha von Staufen .

She was married (before 1284) to Heinrich the Whimsical of Braunschweig-Grubenhagen and is the mother of Adelheit-Irene (1293–1324), the first wife of the Byzantine emperor Andronikos III. Agnes was considered a supporter for literature. This testified to a certain formation of the nobility . It is uncertain whether they actually read manuscripts with the epic works themselves. What is certain is that most of the aristocrats had persons in their service who were capable of writing and reading. This was usually the court cleric, who was also used as a scribe for documents .
