Aharon Barak
Aharon Barak ( Hebrew אהרן ברק; Born September 16, 1936 in Kaunas , Lithuania ) is an Israeli lawyer and professor at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . Aharon Barak was President of the Israeli Supreme Court from 1995 to 2006 .
Barak's family was imprisoned in the Kauen concentration camp during the German occupation of Lithuania and emigrated via Rome to Palestine after the end of the war , where they settled in Jerusalem . In 1975 he was awarded the Israel Prize and in 2006 the Gruber Justice Prize . In 1987 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
During his tenure as attorney general, he was part of the Israeli team in 1978 in the peace negotiations with Egypt that led to the Camp David Agreement .
