Asher Dan Grunis , Hebrew אשר גרוניס(Born January 17, 1945 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli lawyer and was the presiding judge and president of the Israeli Supreme Court from 2012 to 2015 .

Life

Grunis served in the Israeli army from 1962 to 1965 . In 1968 he did his Bachelor of Laws at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . In 1969 he was admitted to the Israeli Bar Association. Grunis made his Master of Laws in 1972 at the University of Virginia . He received his PhD from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in Canada. Since 2003 he has been a judge at the Supreme Court in Israel. On February 28, 2012 he was appointed President of the Court to succeed Dorit Beinisch . His tenure as Judge and President of the Court ended in early 2015. His successor is Miriam Naor .
