The Ahfad University for Women ( English Ahfad University for Women (AUW) , Arabic جامعة الأحفاد للبنات, DMG Ǧāmiʿat al-Aḥfād li-l-banāt ) is a private university in Omdurman , Sudan , which is exclusively open to female students. It is located around 15 kilometers northwest of the capital Khartoum .

The university was founded in 1966 with the aim of creating educational opportunities for women , strengthening the role of women, especially in rural development , and promoting equal rights for women in Sudan. In the 2011–2012 academic year, Ahfad University had around 5,000 female students enrolled.

Despite its small size, the AUW is very well networked internationally; u. a. there is an annual summer school in cooperation with the Humboldt University in Berlin and the Free University of Berlin and a regular exchange program also with Berlin universities.

The AUW is divided into six faculties ( schools ):

  • The School of Family Sciences
  • The School of Psychology and Preschool Education
  • The School of Organizational Management
  • The School of Rural Extension, Education and Development ( Rural Development )
  • The School of Medicine (Medicine)
  • The School of Pharmacy

In addition to undergraduate studies (bachelor's degree programs), two master’s degree programs are also offered, in Human Nutrition and Gender and Development (gender and development).
