Ahmed Al Maktum

Sheikh Ahmed bin Hasher Al Maktum ( Arabic أحمد آل مكتوم, DMG Aḥmad Āl Maktūm ; * December 31, 1963 in Dubai ) is a marksman from the United Arab Emirates .

Al Maktum is one of the world's best shooters in trap and double trap shooting. After several World Cup wins and fourth place in Double Trap at the World Championships 2003 in Nicosia , he won at the Olympics in 2004 in Athens gold medal in Double Trap. This makes him both the first ever Olympic champion and the first ever medalist at the Olympic Games for his country. In the trap he missed a second medal in fourth place. For the first time he took already in 2000 in Sydney Olympic Games and was part 18 in the trap and 23 in Double Trap competition. Maktums third games, the competitions were in 2008 from Beijing . In the trap he reached his worst Olympic result as 30th. Things went much better in the double trap, where he reached the final as defending champion and finished seventh.

Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktum is a member of the royal family of Dubai and trains alone on an open-air shooting range that he has set up on his private property in Dubai. His coach is Rafael Mukhamediarov from Uzbekistan . He is also one of the best squash players in his country. Al Maktum holds a business degree from the University of Phoenix in Arizona , USA . He is also an athlete ambassador for the development aid organization Right to Play .
