Ahmed Ezz

Ahmed Ezz ( Arabic أحمد عز; * January 12, 1959 ) is an Egyptian businessman and politician. Until the 2011 revolution he was the owner of the steel manufacturer Ezz Steel and a member of the National Democratic Party (NDP) in the People's Assembly and chairman of the National Budget Committee. He was considered the personal confidante of the then President Husni Mubarak . After his fall, Ezz was also arrested. In 2012 he was sentenced to a long prison term for corruption. He was released on bail in 2014 under the new ruler al-Sisi .

At the end of 2010, Ezz wanted to lay off 4,000 workers from his company and replace them with foreign workers. As a result, riots broke out in Suez .
